Choosing an education agent
Your education is a big decision. The person helping you make it should be someone you can trust. This guide will help you understand what to look for.
6 things to consider
The UK Agent Quality Framework (AQF) provides guidance for students and parents on choosing an education agent. Here are some key things to look for:
- Check them out. Are their counsellors trained? Can you verify them? Look for recognised training and check independent sources such as the British Council database.
- Ask who they represent. Which universities and colleges can they actually recruit for? A good agent will be transparent about their partnerships.
- Ask questions. Find out about courses, entry requirements, campuses, timetables, fees and your options. Nothing should feel mysterious.
- Understand the money. Ask whether the agent charges you. Check if they receive commission from education providers. Make sure you understand the costs before you apply.
- Protect your application. Never agree to false information or documents. Make sure you understand what is being submitted in your name and keep copies of your documents.
- Remember: the choice is yours. A good education agent advises you. They don't pressure you. Take your time and choose what is right for you.
